YEAR 2025 CITY Malung (Dalarna) COUNTRY Sweden PRODUCT SKY Series

The industrial development of Autoform, a Swedish company specializing in the production of plastic components for the automotive industry, has been based on three cornerstones: innovation, precision, and sustainability.

Headquartered in Malung, since 1988 the company has specialized in vacuum thermoforming of technical plastic components and aluminium moulds machining for the production of trunk mats, roof boxes, storage boxes, and customized thermoplastic components for cars and other industrial vehicles. “Our flagship products include protective mats used in the rear trunk of cars. We have supplied them to 25 OEM clients—virtually every automotive brand on the European market,” says Daniel Helgesson, CEO of Autoform.

The entire supply process—from design and development to production, sales, and logistics—is carried out internally, ensuring control and quality throughout the supply chain, and aligned with a sustainability-driven production model: “We use closed-loop recycling processes for the materials we employ, and all waste is shredded and returned to suppliers. The final product is made entirely of recyclable materials,” continues Helgesson.

THE CONTEXT

With more than 500 models designed in close collaboration with leading automotive manufacturers in the European market and an annual average sale of around 1.5 million mats, Autoform has established itself as a leading automotive supplier. Moreover, with the addition of Volvo Trucks to its client portfolio, the company has experienced significant growth: Volvo Trucks became our client in 2022, and since then we have significantly increased our turnover and hired 50 new employees,” shares Helgesson. “We’re also expanding our customer base, introducing new products, and projecting steady growth,” he adds.

To support internal expansion and respond to increased production capacity, Autoform has launched a plan to expand its machine fleet, with the aim of replacing an old model in the production facility with a state-of-the-art solution capable of supporting the new production rates without compromising on precision and excellence in aluminium moulds machining.

THE SOLUTION

“We purchased a first Belotti FLU 2617 CNC milling machine from KH back in 2019, and we are very satisfied with that investment: it’s a stable, highly reliable machine that has consistently performed well,” says Helgesson.

Five years after the first purchase, the company once again turned to Belotti 5-axis CNC centers, investing in a Belotti SKY 2630 machining center—ideal for milling aluminium patterns and moulds and light alloys—especially suited for the automotive and aerospace sectors.

“This new machining center completes our machine fleet and replaces an older model we had. It’s a 3-by-2-meter milling machine, which we will use for aluminium moulds machining. This new milling machine opens up new opportunities: we can now process larger and heavier moulds, something we couldn’t do before. In addition, we can manage everything internally without outsourcing, which is essential for maintaining quick delivery times for our clients,” continues Helgesson.

The entire procurement process was overseen by Belotti Export Sales Department and Krister Hultman, CEO of KH Produktionsteknik AB, Belotti’s official distributor in Sweden. Together they supervised every single phase, from drafting the initial offer to the delivery and final installation of the machine.

“When making this type of investment, many aspects need to align—both in choosing the right technology and ensuring a smooth installation. I can confirm that Krister and KH Produktionsteknik offer excellent support, from the initial offer to the delivery of the machine,” says Erik Ståhl, Head of Tools at Autoform.

The Belotti SKY 2630 5-axis machining center features a perimeter enclosure, a steel table with T-slots, and an MQL minimal lubrication system. The 5-axis machining on the structural parts of aluminium moulds is carried out using a single-shoulder head equipped with a 22 kW electrospindle (max. rotation 20,000 rpm) that is liquid-cooled and has a pneumatic cone clamping system.

The machining center is also equipped with the following accessories/software:

  • 30-position carrousel tool changer
  • Air blowing on the tool
  • Probing system
  • SDS Measurement Cycle
  • Belotti MyB IoT Suite, with Teleservice, Advanced Log, and bMaintenance modules
  • Numerical control: Siemens One

THE BENEFITS

Installed and commissioned in early June 2025, the new Belotti SKY machining center is part of the Swedish company’s industrial growth plan. Thanks to its advanced technology, the 5-axis milling machine enables the machining of aluminium moulds significantly larger and heavier than before—paving the way for a series of strategic benefits:

  1. Expansion of production capacity, with a marked increase in the volume and complexity of machinable parts.
  2. Full internalization of the production process, ensuring greater efficiency and quality.
  3. Reduced delivery time for clients.
